My  —

Balanced

Body

PRACTICE

PHILOSOPHY

Christy DiColla, BSA, CEMT, CRM, CRTP

I am a professional and qualified manual therapist with over 15 years experience in the massage and equine wellness industry. I believe in a whole body approach to balancing the musculoskeletal system and relieving pain.

Each tangible structure in the real world is a compromise between stability and mobility, which allows the structure to deal with all kinds of environmental stimuli responsively and without "breaking" essential parts.

Muscle "knots", spasms, adhesions, trigger points, fascial thickening, less-than-efficient movement patterns, and pain are all ultimately the body's attempt to deal with stability/mobility issues. By releasing these negative tensional patterns in the body and mobilizing the body through targeted stretching, new body alignment can be realized and pain reduced.

I am dedicated to keep your horse pain free and active! I provide results-based muscle therapy and no horse's treatments are the same.

Each session is focus & tailored to reduce pain, speed up recovery, improve circulation, reduce  chance of injury, improve mobility/ROM, and improve performance.

My style is designed by incorporating techniques from multiple disciplines I have learned  in college, massage therapy school, continuining education courses, and in the field as a manual therapist. These therapies include, but are not limited to, sports massage, trigger point, myofascial release, Reiki, kinesiology taping,  Anatomy Trains structural integration techniques,Photonic light acupressure, and PEMF therapy.  I believe in never ending self-improvement and am always taking new courses to incorporate new healing modalities into my practice.

"When you touch one thing with deep awareness,
 you touch everything.

Everything in your Horse's body

is connected

Sports Therapy can Release The Tension

&

relieve pain

sports massage

Sports massage works deep in the muscles, realigning the muscle fibres and connective tissue, and flushing away the toxins. Regular sessions will increase joint mobility and flexibility, and reduce the risk of injury during exercise.

Techniques are used which go as deep as is comfortable for the client, clear trigger points, and reduce chronic pain.

Muscle therapy techniques are used that aid in releasing holding patterns in the myofascial system, balance the posture, and align the body.

Sports alignment is critical for pain free peak performance.

Magnawave pemf

PEMF therapy uses bursts of

high-voltage electromagnetic frequency waves to heal damaged tissues and bone, to relieve injury-related pain, and to even stimulate organs.

The idea is that pulses at low frequencies will pass through the skin and penetrate deep into muscles, tendons, and even organs to activate the cell's energy and encourage its natural repair mechanisms.

PEMF is catching on as a non-invasive way to approach injuries, chronic pain, inflammation, and even chronic conditions like anhydrous.

Kinesiology Taping

Kinesiology tape is a thin, stretchy, elastic cotton strip with an acrylic adhesive. Therapeutic kinesiology tape that can benefit a wide variety of musculoskeletal and sports injuries, plus inflammatory conditions.

Kinesiology tape is almost identical to the skin in both thickness and elasticity, which allows kinesiology tape to be worn without binding, constricting or restriction of your horse's movement.

Kinesiology tape has a comprehensive array of therapeutic benefits. Because kinesiology taping can usually be left on for several days or up to a week, these therapeutic benefits are available to the injured area 24 hours a day, significantly accelerating the healing process from trauma, injuries and inflammatory conditions.

Reiki &
Photonic laser Therapy

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is a healing technique based on the principle that the therapist can channel energy into the patient by means of touch, to activate the natural healing processes of the patient's body and restore physical and emotional well-being. Reiki and polarity therapies are often used at the beginning of a session to calm horses and prepare their systems for bodywork.

Red light therapy, RLT, is thought to work by producing a biochemical effect in cells that strengthens the mitochondria. The mitochondria are the energy-creating, powerhouse of the cell. The energy-carrying molecule found in the cells of all living things is called ATP(adenosine triphosphate). By increasing the function of the mitochondria using RLT, a cell can make more ATP. With more energy, cells can function more efficiently, rejuvenate themselves, and repair damage. I specifically use RLT to stimulate acupressure points and to aid in inflammation reduction in joints.

Maintenance Bodywork

I offer bodywork on a regular basis to equine athletes as part of their wellness program. Its purpose is to help the equine athlete achieve physiological balance & peak performance. Bodywork is recommended every 2-4 weeks for horses in full work, and as needed every 2-4 months for pleasure horses.

Show & Event Bodywork

Event bodywork focuses on relieving pain, mobilizing joints through motion stretch therapy, and restoring vigor and vitality to fatigued muscles. Deep tissue work is not applied at shows so the horses will not become sore from the bodywork. PEMF therapy is offered to reduce inflammation and pain in joints.

Teaching Clinics

I offer bodywork clinics for horse owners to learn simple bodywork techniques that can increase your horse's muscloskeletal health & performance. Topics include assessment, kinesiotaping, stretching, myofascial release, and massage.

Lectures

I am available for equine bodywork and biomechanics lectures. Lectures include a painted horse model with examples on how to detect common imbalances and  areas of restriction in the horse. Kinesiotaping and motion stretch release techniques will also be demonstrated.
